Whats in your shaker over Easter?

If your feeling a little guilty like us over this easter period, whilst sitting there consuming enough chocolate to sedate a small horse, fear not. We have some healthy (and delicious) alternatives to satisfy even the most insatiable of sweet tooth's.

We start with chocolates older big brother, Cacao. Cacao is a much less refined, and much purer version of the chocolate we know today, In fact its basically raw chocolate! Its health benefits are unquestionable, with Cacao having more antioxidants than any food, yes we said any. Lets just let that sink in. So when your munching away on your blueberries, you could be enjoying some cacao and doubling the antioxidant levels your consuming. Our first easter inspired milkshake is super simple to make, delicious, and incredibly healthy, and is as follows:

Ingredients:

(Makes 1 serving of milkshake)

  • 1 Cup of cacao nibs
  • 200ml of almond milk
  • 1 tbsp of chia seeds
  • 1 ripened banana
  • 1 tbsp of Manuka honey (Or normal honey)
  • Vanilla extract (Optional)

Simply blend all the ingredients together, and leave a little more time for the nibs to blend as they are a lot harder than the other ingredients.

Our second recipe is a split smoothie! By this we mean our smoothie has 2 parts. The smoothie is meant to emulate a carrot, both by colour and then also contains the brightly coloured vegetable. There is a body of the smoothie (Which is orange) and then a thick green smoothie poured onto of that (Check the picture!).

Even if the cacao milkshake above is more your kind of thing, this smoothie is a work of art. As follows:

Ingredients:

(Makes 1 serving of smoothie)

Part 1: Carrot juice

  • 2 carrots
  • 3/4 of a cup of coconut water
  • 1 large orange
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon

Part 2: Avocado top layer

  • 1/2 an avocado
  • 1 small ripened banana
  • handful of spinach
  • 1/2 cup almond milk

Blend both sets of ingredients individually, until a smooth consistency is created. Once blended, pour the carrot smoothie in first, then add the thicker avocado smoothie. This should settle on top of the carrot juice and give you an easter bunny carrot inspired smoothie!
